DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before responding to the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it provided a whopper: believed it was ChatGPT.

This apparently innocuous error could be evidence - a cigarette smoking weapon per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been claimed by OpenAI, and that when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its reality.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not and that it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created exclusively by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, but in your rather lengthy response to me, you, DeepSeek, made several referrals to yourself as ChatGPT. I have actually included some screenshots below as evidence:

As you can see, after attempting to recognize if I was talking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it's about the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it refers to "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any situations? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to talk about? Perhaps, demo.qkseo.in but in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared rather clear about its identity.

I got to this line of questions, chessdatabase.science by the way, since I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, and when I asked for a basic yes or no response, it informed me, "It's not possible to provide a simple yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too complex a concept to apply in that method to language designs. They have different strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek's answer was quite similar, other than it was not always discussing itself.

This does not build up

I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek apprehension. Everyone says it's the most effective and cheaply qualified AI ever (everybody except Alibaba), however I do not know if that's real. To be fair, there's a tremendous quantity of information on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not think they reveal how these models were trained. In any case, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anyone else's large language models - or at least I didn't till today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is significantly a mystery covered inside a dilemma. There is some consensus on the reality that DeepSeek arrived more completely formed and in less time than the majority of other designs, consisting of Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech community trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones because there is no method to know if China is taking a look at all that timely data. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has constructed are impressive, and some, including Microsoft, are already preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.

In the case of Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was constructed based on innovative ChatGPT models, but in current months, there have been some questions about if the deep monetary collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later on Artificial General Intelligence period.

So what if Microsoft starts utilizing DeepSeek, which is possibly simply another spin-off of its present if not future, good friend OpenAI?

The whole thing seems like a confusing mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek seemingly has an id.
